Album Notes
Includes liner notes by Laurence Cane-Honeysett.All tracks have been digitally remastered.Until Bob Marley came along, no other Jamaican artist came close to the international success of Desmond Dekker, a true pioneer of reggae, ska, and rocksteady. Dekker's 1969 album, ISREALITES, is now available in DVD Audio, completely remastered in crisp 5.1 digital sound. Dekker's legacy to the world of reggae is forever preserved in this stunning edition.

Until the arrival of Bob Marley, Jamaica's legendary Desmond Dekker remained the most famous reggae artist on the international scene. Releasing "Honor Your Father and Mother" as his first single in 1963, Dekker enjoyed enormous success in his home country all throughout the 1960s with a formidable run of 20 number-one hits that included "Hey Grandma," "Music Like Dirt," "Rudie Got Soul," and "Sabotage." In 1969, Dekker achieved his greatest international success when the politically charged "Israelites" became the first reggae single to top the UK charts and break the U.S Top 10, marking the arrival of reggae as a commercially viable artform outside of Jamaica. Though he continued to score hits throughout the 1970s ("You Can Get It If You Really Want," "Sing a Little Song"), Dekker's star became eclipsed by Marley's until the 1980s and '90s 2-Tone ska/mod revivals finally earned him the recognition he deserved as one of the true pioneers of reggae. This anthology presents a fine selection of Dekker's greatest hits from 1963-1999 in a DualDisc format that features a CD on one side and a DVD with bonus video material on the other.

Editorial Reviews
4 stars out of 5 - ...Reveals both the longevity of his career, the constant good humor of the man, and his admirable refusal to change any aspect of his music as time goes on
